Monument Valley Community Center site director

Position Description

Yee Ha’ólníi Doo seeks an energetic, visionary, and impactful Community Center Director who will manage the day-to-day operations of the Monument Valley Community Center.  The facility is located in the Monument Valley Welcome Center owned and operated by the Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation within the Navajo Nation Division of Natural Resources.  The Community Center features 7 program rooms, as well as an office and a food court area.  Eventually the Center will include a Community Garden.


Duties & Responsibilities Daily Operations 

  • Develops and monitors the Community Center’s annual budget (for programs, equipment, and support services), and tracks expenses and revenues generated by the facility. 
  • Plans and directs activities that promote food security, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement; language and culture-based programs; and a regular and on-going schedule of events and activities that foster a sense of interrelatedness for local residents. 
  • Oversees daily operations of the facility including hiring, training, discipline, and evaluation of staff and volunteers. 
  • Evaluates programs to ensure they are of appropriate quality and that resources are used effectively. 
  • Ensures the facility is properly maintained and all public spaces are kept tidy and contribute to a welcoming atmosphere for the community. 
  • Maintains facility safety for assigned staff and members of the community using the facility. 
  • Meets regularly with the Executive Director to revise facility policies and accepts suggestions and program or activity recommendations.  

Community Engagement

  • Develops and implements marketing strategies for the facility that include promotional events, marketing tools, advertisement of the facility, and annual marketing plans. 
  • Interfaces with community groups and actively promotes the facility throughout the community through speaking assignments, guest appearances, and media. 
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with other agencies and organizations in the community to meet community needs and ensure that services are not duplicated. 
  • Attends Oljato Chapter Meetings and relevant community engagement events throughout the Oljato Chapter.
  • Assists the Executive Director with fundraising activities for the Community Center. 

Impact Evaluation 

  • Researches and analyzes community needs to determine program directions and goals. 
  • Assists the Executive Director in developing an assessment model and data tracking system to evaluate the effectiveness of the Community Center in advancing programmatic goals. 
  • Oversees the tracking of data by staff and volunteers to facilitate assessment of the effectiveness of the Community Center.  

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree desired but not required. 
  • A history of experience and commitment to working in tribal communities. 
  • Experience managing large scale events or programs in a community setting. 
  • Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Ability to multitask and provide courteous customer service to the public. 
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide array of people – co-workers, the public, news media, and for-profit and nonprofit entities. 
  • Commitment to excellence in work. 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Passion for the Organization’s mission and impact. 
  • General knowledge of business, management, finance, and accounting, including budgeting activities. 
  • Excellent public relation and communication skills. 
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. 
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer, including word processing software; copy and fax machines; phones and various other technology.

Sheep Springs Community Center Site Director

Position Description
